Nose reshaping. 2 recommended aesthetic procedures

Nose reshaping. 2 recommended aesthetic procedures

However, it often happens that its appearance does not harmonize with that of the other features. Fortunately, there are several solutions that can be used when its shape or size does not satisfy you. You will find out what these are and what their advantages and disadvantages are in the lines below.

Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures and the first one we usually think of when it comes to nose reshaping.

The final result will depend on the size of the nose, the condition of the skin, and the age of the patient, but, as a rule, this procedure can modify the size of the nose, the shape of its tip, the nostrils or the nasal bridge, as well as the angle between the nose and the upper lip. When necessary, it can be combined with a procedure called septoplasty to correct a deviated septum.

Rhinoplasty surgery can be closed or open. In the first case, the incisions are made inside the nose. In the second, the plastic surgeon will make an incision at the level of the columella, that narrow portion that separates the nostrils, and will lift the skin to expose the entire nasal area. What exactly the operation itself involves depends on the aspects that need to be corrected.

As a rule, it lasts around 3 hours and is performed under general anesthesia. Regarding the final results, it may take a few months before they are visible.[3]

Regarding the risks associated with this procedure, the list includes:

  • Altered skin sensitivity;
  • Infections;
  • Perforation of the nasal septum (rare);
  • Risks associated with anesthesia;
  • Unsatisfactory results;
  • The need for additional intervention to reshape the nose.[1]

Ultrasonic rhinoplasty

From the point of view of the techniques used, there are various types of rhinoplasty, and one of them is the ultrasonic one, which involves replacing the classic instruments with a piezosurgery device, to cut and reshape the bones of the nasal pyramid with greater precision, without affecting the soft tissues and without the risk of unwanted fractures. For the patient, this means low trauma, more natural results, and faster recovery.[4]

Dr. Olimpiu Hârceagă is one of the first surgeons in the country to use piezosurgery in rhinoplasty, his experience in this field guaranteeing superior results.

Non-surgical rhinoplasty with hyaluronic acid

There are no surgical alternatives to rhinoplasty, but those patients who do not want to undergo such an intervention can opt for a non-surgical rhinoplasty. Most of the time, an intervention of this type involves correcting certain defects with the help of hyaluronic acid injections. It is also known as liquid rhinoplasty.

It is a procedure that you can use if you want to add volume to your nose or improve the appearance of its tip, if you want to smooth out small bumps on your nose or camouflage them, or straighten a slightly crooked nose. In other words, it is an excellent procedure when small changes are needed. However, it also has certain limitations.

First of all, it cannot make your nose smaller or narrower, but only add volume to it. Secondly, if you want long-lasting results, classic, surgical rhinoplasty is more suitable. The results of non-surgical rhinoplasty with hyaluronic acid last for several months, but are not permanent.

Regarding the procedure itself, it lasts a few tens of minutes and begins by disinfecting the area and applying a local anesthetic agent. Hyaluronic acid fillers are then injected into certain areas of the nose to obtain the desired effects.

Minor side effects may occur, such as redness and sensitivity of the treated area, swelling, bruising, or nausea. However, these should not persist for more than 1-2 days. There is also the risk of complications such as fever, blurred vision, tissue necrosis, or loss of vision. However, they can be avoided by choosing an experienced specialist.

Among the advantages of non-surgical rhinoplasty, we must mention:

  • Short duration of the procedure;
  • Immediate results;
  • Lack of incisions or scars.

Another advantage is that, if you do not like the results, you do not have to panic because they are reversible. A specific recovery period is not necessary. You will be able to resume your activities immediately after the intervention is completed.[2]

Rhinoplasty is the main intervention you can use if you want to change the shape or size of your nose. If you want major and permanent changes, it is also the only procedure you can opt for. If you are not ready for such an operation and only minor changes are needed, non-surgical rhinoplasty might be the right solution for you. Schedule a consultation to discuss with Dr. Olimpiu Hârceagă and find out which of these two options can offer you the desired results or if there are other procedures you can consider.
